Meet the team: introducing Jye, our Post Production Manager

Hi Jye, welcome to the team!

Hello :)

How have your first few months at Creative Listening been? Any highlights so far?

Great! Yes, I’ve really been noticing how much I’m improving at animation, and I love After Effects so that’s a real joy for me. I’ve also recently been getting my first bit of project management experience on a pretty big job with support from the team, so that’s been a rewarding learning experience.

Tell us a bit about your background. Where did you study and how did you get into film, video editing and your specialism, motion design?

I got my film degree at university in Brisbane, Australia, and got most of my experience making music videos or fashion films for friends, and at my previous role as a video editor at a PR company in Brisbane. My affinity for motion design is still only a relatively new thing that I’m discovering, so I’m very glad to have the opportunity to nurture that at Creative Listening.

What do you think are some important factors to consider when it comes to creating learning-first content?

By nature, my first instinct is always to make something aesthetically pleasing and to communicate with good design. For learning-first content however, some things need to be spelled out more literally or plainly. Function over form may be unnatural for some but it’s very important to keep in mind when creating practical resources for students.

What opportunities do you think AI offers filmmakers?

Filmmakers always work closely with technology: cameras, computers, editing software etc. AI is just another new form of technology that we need to be aware of, and stay up to date with, so that we can allow it to assist us to innovate and make beautiful things.

Standout film content is about capturing attention – can you give us some insights into how you achieve this?

I think producing something of value that connects with people is the most sincere way to capture attention, but my practical advice is don’t waste time! There are millions of accounts and videos and ads vying for attention, so yours needs to get to the point quickly. It’s hard to be ruthless with something you’ve created but try to continually reappraise and cut cut cut.

Finally, what are you watching, listening to and reading at the moment?

The last thing I watched was a documentary called The Mechanics of Fluids by Gala Hernandez. I've been listening to a lot of bar italia and Eera, and I’m currently reading Uncreative Writing by Kenneth Goldsmith.
